Why a Dated Archive Is Worth the Ten Seconds It Takes
Every post here carries a day and a month, and that single habit has saved me more times than any clever filing system. When a friend heading off to college asked where to find the gift-wrapping stamps I used, I did not have to guess — I knew that entry went up on July 25, 2016, because the date was sitting right there next to it.
What a date actually gives you
- You can find an old project without remembering what you called it.
- You can see what you were busy with that month, camp weeks and assignments included.
- You can tell at a glance whether an idea is old or still fresh in your head.
The same logic applies to anything that comes in steps: a packing list, a recipe, the setup for an account you only touch twice a year. A friend of mine kept getting locked out of her own, so I passed along the versus trade login walkthrough she needed — plain steps, in order, easy to follow on a phone.
Small projects, personalized stamps, a stack of presents that all has to travel — none of it is complicated. It is just easier to revisit when you can find it again.
